‘Restriction’ an exhibition of miniature artworks at Clayhill Arts, Bridgewater, Somerset
Launched 23 March 2021, a year after the first UK lockdown
An online exhibition of miniature pieces of art inspired by restrictions of the pandemic. Devised and curated by Amanda Lynch, the exhibition is displayed in a set of old letterpress drawers, with the drawers’ tiny compartments providing a stimulus for the exhibiting artists.
My pieces for the exhibition inherently reflected the sense of restriction I experienced during lockdown, when I began creating tiny matchbox artworks of places (that I could not at that time visit). Also the seed boxes that I had created, as an idea of wildflower seeds going out somewhere, creating a piece of living wildlife. So I focussed on moonlight gardens, the seeds and the elephant hawkmoth that might be attracted at night to the wildflowers those seeds might become, should they be planted (which they have at Clayhill Arts). This, to me, was the extension of my ideas, sending someone a meadow, a patch of heavenly nature! I had a hummingbird Hawkmoth visit my own front garden during lockdown and had never before witnessed such a delight so closely, I felt honoured.
